Taking your car for its ITV

Two weeks ago we looked at how to go about getting an appointment for your car to be tested for its ITV - the Spanish MOT. Once at the testing centre you join the inevitable queue to pay.

To find out who is before you in the queue, as people are not always standing in order, ask  "¿Quién es el último?”  “Who is the last person in line?”   Someone will say "Soy yo."  “ It's me." Then you know your turn is after them.

After paying you wait for your car to be called. Normally the make of the car will be called first followed by the registration number. So, you might hear "Ford, BA 9654 QU”.  Make sure you know what your registration number sounds like in Spanish.

Once you get to the actual test, here are some words which may be useful:

Los frenos  -  the brakes
Freno de mano  -  hand brake

Delante  -  front
De atrás  -  back

Arranca  -  switch on the engine
Apaga  -  switch off the engine

Para  -  stop

El intermitente de la derecha  -  the right indicator
El intermitente de la izquierda  -  the left indicator

Los limpiaparabrisas  -  windscreen wipers
El cinturón de seguridad  -  seat belt

And mucha suerte  -  lots of luck.
