„Der Paul war der Dolmetscher bei einem Choraustaustasch zwischen den St. Nicholas Singers aus Northwich, UK und unserem Kinderchor, den „Kolibris“, hier in Koblenz, Deutschland. Ohne ihn hätten wir es nicht geschafft! Er war fleiβig, sympathisch und sehr effektiv.“

Artists Go Walkabout
Sonntag, den 21. Februar 2010 um 00:00 Uhr

altEvery year in May Art Gaucín offers art lovers the chance to go walkabout in the village and to visit the studios of local artists to see displays of their work.

In 2009 16 local painters, photographers and sculptors opened up their studios to the public on the last two weekends in May and invited visitors to walk and drive around the area in order to pop in to see their work.
This was the third year in succession that Art Gaucín had organised its Art Trail and the concept is now well established on the arts calendar in Malaga province.  Plans are now well in hand for 2010.

The group, who all live and work in or near the pretty pueblo blanco of Gaucín in the Serranía de Ronda, welcomed dozens of visitors into their homes.  They were able to view a sample of all the artists involved at Gaucín cultural centre, El Convento, where maps of the village showing the studio locations were available.

The best known of the Gaucín artists is American sculptor Bayard Osborn who has lived in the village for over 30 years.  Now aged 87, Bayard has a long list of exhibitions in Europe and the USA to his name and has works in many private collections, including that of King of Spain, Juan Carlos.

Art Gaucín includes a number of experienced artists who have taught art and exhibited in various European countries. Painter Victoria Orr-Ewing, who has a studio at Finca Las Tobiscas just off the Gaucín to Jimena road opposite the turn off to El Colmenar, also exhibited at the Lennox Gallery in London in November, 2009, and printmaker Brenda Hartill, with a studio near the church, was at the Editions Gallery in Liverpool in September, 2009.

Painter and former art lecturer Jennifer Waterhouse was chosen to design the poster for the prestigious Gaucín Flamenco Festival in July last year.  Her studio is on Calle Toledillo.

Ceramicist Anna McGrane’s studio is on the Manilva-Gaucin road at km 20 – well worth a visit!.

Photographers Mandy Schoch, Vivienne Whiffen and Michael Lock cover a wide variety of subject matter, including views of Andalucía.  Mandy and Vivienne are in the village centre, while Michael is to be found at the same finca location as Victoria.

Painters Vanessa Wilson, Lesley Riddihough, Nozomi Hatano, Stephanie Thompson and Paddy Robinson all have their studios in the village, as do Michael Roschlau, Jim Rattenbury and Sebastian Fisher, who use a variety of artistic techniques.
