"Paul’s extensive knowledge of Spanish has been an invaluable asset to me recently. When my husband passed away suddenly, Paul made himself available at all times to guide me through the difficult process of Spanish protocol. I could not have wished for a more helpful and sensitive friend during this tragic time.”

"Tiptoe through the Potholes..."

It’s amazing how many potholes and large cracks have appeared in the road between our village, Montejaque, and the nearest big town, Ronda.
Not to mention the landslides and streams that now make this thoroughfare a genuine obstacle course.

This is all as a result of the worst weather in living memory in these parts; almost three months of almost continual heavy rain have turned this part of Andalucía into a veritable disaster zone.
What is surprising is how long these ostensibly urgent repairs are taking.  The road in question had already suffered two major collapses early last year and work began months ago to correct the problem.  They built two new loops so that they could excavate and build proper foundations at the sites of the two collapses.
Now, with the extreme weather, the loops themselves have degraded also!
Not only is this road a key link between Ronda and three large villages, one of them, Benaoján, is a major producer of pork products.  Huge lorries trundle the route day and night, causing ever more damage to the road!
Although working parties have recently chucked some tarmac into the worst holes, the road remains a disgrace, adding to Spain’s growing reputation that it is still a third-world country.
