Joy all round for Barça and Malaga fans. But lots of long faces among the Real fans in the bar where I watched the Malaga-Madrid game. No football now for about three weeks, until the World Cup begins in South Africa next month. Can the favourites, Spain, repeat their 2008 triumph in the European Championship, or are England finally ready to win La Copa Mundial for the second time? © Paul Whitelock

Today FC Barcelona duly won the Primera Liga, as predicted, and by a clear three points. They easily beat Valladolid 3-0 at the Camp Nou stadium in the Catalan capital while Real Madrid, who were one point adrift of the leaders going into the last round of matches, were held to a draw by Malaga FC, allowing our provincial team to avoid relegation.
