"We enjoyed being in a small, friendly Spanish community with such easy access to the town.  The apartment is very comfortable.  We made good use of the extensive library and the garden and pool – a lovely way to relax after a hard day’s ‘culture’!"

All good things come in threes!

Today, 23 June 2010, was a great day! Three fantastic things happened: we bought a house, we fixed our wedding date; and England qualified for the knockout stages of the World Cup!

Taking things chronologically, I woke this morning with a bad hangover, caused largely by drinking seven bottles of red wine last night – not just me, others shared in that disgrace.  But after a pleasant late breakfast with good friends on the roof terrace, which eased the pain somewhat, the day began to improve significantly.

First a meeting with the owner of a house we’d had our eye on for a while.  We finally agreed a deal and shook hands on it.  Next step the lawyer and the payment of the deposit to secure the purchase.

Secondly, I spoke at some length with the lady “vicar” in Germany who is going to marry the Hausfrau and me and we fixed the date for the 31 July! See Engaged at 60!

Then it was down to the Yellow Elephant (El Elefante Amarillo) to watch England “thrash” Slovenia.  To be fair, they did play better than in the previous two games and deserved to have won by more goals.

So a pretty good day, I’d say.  The only downside was that, as emerged later on, we will have to play our nemesis  Germany in the next round on Sunday.  Oh, well you can’t have everything ...  But a fab house and a lovely wife – that’ll do just fine, thank you!
