Inland crime wave

There has been a noticeable increase in reported thefts in the Serranía de Ronda, with dozens of incidents this autumn.

And some of the items stolen have been bizarre, to say the least!

Lottery “winners”!

There is a gang in Ronda that makes off with all the lottery tickets when they commit break-ins. They have been targeting premises on Ronda’s El Fuerte industrial estate, where the latest victims have been a metal workshop and a drinks distributor. It is not yet known whether the thieves have won anything on the lottery!

Nut case

Ten people were arrested in Igualeja for stealing 300 kilos of chestnuts taken from various growers’ stores. Local police stopped vehicles on local roads and discovered the nuts on board. They were an organised gang who were taking the chestnuts, worth 1,800 euros, to market.

More conventional robberies have yielded little profit for the thieves.  For example, a masked man armed with a knife threatened staff at a Supersol supermarket in Ronda estate, as the doors were being closed, and made off with a mere 600 euros. A 43-year-old man arrested after holding up a fruit shop at gun point, also in Ronda, had stolen only 130 euros.

Definite proof that crime doesn’t pay!
