Got bugger-all for the house, of course, cos of the slump in the housing market, but at least I’ll no longer have to fork out for Council Tax, buildings and contents insurance, boiler cover, standing charges for electricity, gas and water, etc, etc, and I can pay off my mortgage and other debts. So, Tunstall Villa, which I bought in September 2008, before I met the Lovely Rita, Meter Maid - now my wife - and never really lived in for long, is gone. The house, located on a road aptly named Wash Lane, was nearly washed away in the big freeze of January 2010, when I was abroad on holiday (see Wash Lane Awash!). Pipes burst and water flooded the East wing leaving the cellar a meter deep in H²O. My wines, my extensive vinyl collection, my kids’ photos and school and university memorabilia, all stored down there, were all left floating in the water. On its way to the cellar the water wrecked the en-suite bathroom, the newly decorated landing and hall, as well as the lounge and dining room carpets, my CD collection and the contents of the hall stand, ie coats and shoes. Fortunately, the insurance covered the loss, but it was something I could have done without. Anyway, that’s all in the past. Now, I’m living happily in our new place in the campo near Ronda, re-married, retired and dabbling in translation, interpreting and journalism. ¡Viva España! PS. My UK house was sold today! At last I’ve got rid of my beautiful detached Victorian villa in Cheshire - well, Warrington, which is really Lancashire (pre-1974). Appropriately, on the day my late father would have been 94!Paul Whitelock
Paul hat einen Bachelor in Spanisch und Deutsch (BSc) von der Universität Salford in Manchester, England. Er hat auch ein Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PH-Training) und ein Diplom vom Institute of Linguists (MIL).
