So here’s our answer: Yes you can find cheap translators but they will have to work 4, 5 times more than decently paid translators. Do you really think you will get quality for that? How can companies, who’ve spent loads of money in advertisement, ruin their reputation with low quality translations? Would you buy a camera from a website written in mumbo-jumbo? I wouldn’t and I didn’t. Somehow we need to find a way to make our clients realise that their rates are not enough to live on. Do we deserve less than other specialised workers?

Translators get paid less and less. Most of us have studied at least four years, some much longer. We are often specialists in several fields: film, art, literature, tourism…yet we are often offered rates that would translate into a minimum wage if we were salaried.
