“Paul tradujo nuestra carta al inglés, al alemán y al francés en dos ocasiones este año. Estamos muy contentos de su trabajo. Tuvimos problemas con la imprenta y Paul los resolvió por su propia cuenta.”

Culture Shock! PDF

altFuengirola, 0100 hours, Friday. Walking back to the car following a business dinner in the coastal resort, my male friend and I were approached by two young "ladies of the night".

You want a BJ?  Only 20€!
No, thanks!
Ok, then, you can f**k my a**e and pussy!

No, it's OK, I'm gay.  He's my boyfriend (I lied, pointing to my friend, who was getting similar attention from the other girl).
This had no effect. "Mine" tried to manhandle me up a side street. I instinctively checked that my wallet, mobile phone and car keys were safe.
I was now beginning to feel really uncomfortable.  My pal was having the same problem.
We finally managed to extricate ourselves and got into the car.
Take us to your apartment! they implored, as I started the engine and pulled away!
Phew!
Talk about culture shock!  I was quite shaken! I'd never experienced such a situation in nearly six decades of life.  My overwhelming feeling was one of sadness, that young girls are being forced to sell their bodies on the street and for such a tiny amount of money.
I'll keep away from Fuengirola in the future and stick to my quiet mountain village.
