"Paul took on the translation work for The Green Guide to Andalucía at the very last moment. He burnt the midnight oil so that I could meet my deadline at the printers. For A1 service, A1 quality, A1 value – I would recommend A1 Language Services every time!"

Wedding countdown – 5 days to go PDF
Saturday, 24 July 2010 00:00

Just five days to go. On Thursday we flew to Germany, on Friday we met the registrar and the pastor, and yesterday I started practising being a grandad.

Well, it's many a year since I travelled so heavy!  Between us we had five cases, one for our wedding tackle and the rest for all the stuff we'll need for the next month.

We flew TUI fly, a German low-cost airline, from Jerez to Stuttgart.  What a revelation - for the last few years I've only flown Ryanair, so had forgotten that flying can be a pleasant experience.  Pre-booked seats, generous checked-in bag allowance, in-flight meal and soft drinks/beverages included, reclining seats, friendly and polite staff.  Amazing! By Friday night we were settled happily by the Hausfrau's daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren in Talheim.

On Friday we had appointments.  First up the Standesamt (registry office) in Talheim to go through the documentation for the civil marriage on Thursday 29th and to sign some forms.  Then it was off to Maulbronn to meet the lady pastor who will perform the church ceremony on the 31st in the Maulbronner Kloster. We went through the order of service, agreed the hymns and who would read or say what.

After that we confirmed the arrangements for the champagne reception with a local restaurant, the Hausfrau had her nails done and then we headed back to Talheim.

Today, I started rehearsing for my future role as Opa (grandad).  Madita, two years old, walked with me to the baker to buy fresh Brötchen for breakfast.  Later I taught her to blow bubbles, and this evening Oma (grandma), Madita, brother Anton, four, and I walked to a nearby Hoffest (farm open-day) where we played in the sandpit and had something to eat and drink before going home to bed..

A super day!
