Ryanair shocker! PDF

Ryanair has gone from Jerez! At least for the winter ...

Budget airline Ryanair has shut down all its flights between Jerez de la Frontera and the UK for the winter.

The Irish airline announced last month that it is to pull out of Jerez airport this winter with no flights operating between November 2010 and March 2011. They are also cutting flights from there to Frankfurt-Hahn, Germany.

This latest news means that Jerez airport will have no scheduled flights over the winter months.

The announcement comes at a time when a new airport departures lounge is about to open to increase capacity to handle three million passengers a year. Ryanair says that the cut is due to high operating costs at Jerez airport and low demand for flights over the winter months.

Anyone wanting to fly from Jerez and the surrounding area will now have to connect from Madrid, Barcelona or Palma de Mallorca airports. Another alternative is to make the 220km 2 ½ hour drive from Jerez to Málaga airport where there are plenty of direct flights to choose from.

Earlier this year the low-cost airline ceased operations to and from Granada airport, thereby inconveniencing many foreigners who had bought property in the Granada area on the strength of the good access to the area by air.  But, as we’ve seen so often in the past, since when did Ryanair ever give a toss about its passengers, potential or actual?
