The measure has been introduced in an attempt to save fuel and cut energy consumption in the wake of rising fuel prices caused by the upheavals in Libya and other parts of the Arab world. Since few drivers heed the current limit of 120 kph, it will be interesting to see what happens after the new lower limit is introduced. As of 7 March you need to slow down on the motorway! The government is reducing the maximum speed limit on Spain’s roads from 120 kilometres an hour to 110, equivalent to 68.75 miles per hour, even slower than the UK’s miserly limit of 70 mph.
