Opposite the bar were a few parked cars, one of them against a yellow kerb (not allowed). We watched fascinated, as one of our two local municipales (bobbies), Juan, arrived on his moped, parked behind the offending vehicle, also adjacent to the yellow kerb, and entered the bar for a beer. Not a flicker of awareness that he had broken the law and had ignored another infringement! Hola, Juan, ¿Qué pasa, hombre? Well, at least he was wearing a crash helmet! Note: Juan’s name has been changed for his own protection. © Paul Whitelock

The other day, as I was having a drink and tapas with friends, we observed at first hand the rigour of the law regarding illegal parking here in our little village.
