New mayor for Ronda
Viernes 03 de Junio de 2011 07:00

At last, after 10 days of negotiations, PP and PA have formed a coalition to take over the running of Ronda town council from PSOE and its controversial mayor Antonio María Marín Lara. Yes, Toti is finally on his way out to be replaced by new mayor Maripaz Fernández (PP) and her first deputy Isabel Barriga (PA).

As expected, the Partido Popular with seven seats and the Partido Andalucista with five have hammered out a deal to govern in the town. Even though Lara’s party, PSOE, polled more votes than any other party, we’re only talking about 174 more than PP and it was clear that he no longer had the support of local voters.

Despite attempts by Lara to form a coalition of his own, no other party wanted to deal with a politician they regard as untrustworthy following his traitorous act in 2010 of crossing the floor from PA, who had elected him in 2007, to PSOE.

So Lara has been cast into the wilderness and a breath of fresh air will blow through the corridors of power in Ronda.
