Malaga-Costa del Sol airport, as it is now officially known, goes from strength to strength in terms of increased passenger numbers, number of airlines and new routes.

There are now direct flights between Malaga and 104 worldwide destinations, mainly in Europe, Africa and North America.

Good news for the British is that this winter you can now fly direct to and from 21 British airports, although this figure is down from 30 in the summer months. Germans have 15 options and there are 18 destinations within Spain.

52 airlines operate from Malaga, two of them newcomers: German Sky Airlines GmbH and Helitt Líneas Aéreas.

New destinations planned for this winter include Antalya (Turkey), Farnborough (UK), Kuusamo (Finland), Leipzig (Germany), Lille (France), London City, Oporto (Portugal), Oslo (Norway) and Valladolid (Spain).

According to a statement from Aena, the Spanish airports authority: “Everything is set at Malaga-Costa del Sol airport for the winter season. New destinations and airlines connect Malaga with practically the whole world, turning it into a great gateway for millions of people every year, either the first or the last image caught on the retina of each traveller”.
