"Paul took on the translation work for The Green Guide to Andalucía at the very last moment. He burnt the midnight oil so that I could meet my deadline at the printers. For A1 service, A1 quality, A1 value – I would recommend A1 Language Services every time!"

It pays to complain ...
Domingo 06 de Noviembre de 2011 16:00

Two weeks ago my current account was embargoed by Recaudación, the provincial debt collection agency, to the tune of nearly 120 euros! What’s this? I thought.

I went to the Recaudación office, where a very helpful man, José Miguel, advised me it was an unpaid Plusvalía bill from 2008. Plusvalía? 2008? What could that be?

JM kindly rang a lady at the Town Hall, Rosa Romero, who informed him it was to do with the extinción de dominios on a property in Ronda when my first wife and I divorced and we changed the ownership to my name. JM was of the view that my ex-wife was liable and not me and suggested I go to see Rosa about it.

So, the very next day I went to see Rosa, who was very helpful too. She confirmed the origin of the debt and also felt that I was not liable. She helpfully wrote out a denuncia for me which I signed and handed in there and then.

When I discussed the embargo situation with my bank manager on Friday she said it would be probably be a long drawn out process and not to hold my breath. Imagine my surprise when later that day a local policeman knocked on our door to deliver the result of my complaint – it had been upheld and the debt had been cancelled! Amazing!

So, 120€ saved and in double quick time! Keep on complaining!
